Water.org’s Mission to Bring Kids Safe Water & Sanitation

“Safe water & sanitation for all”  –Gary White, co-founder Water.org

This week I had one of those life-changing experiences!  It started with this book I’ve been reading  called Thou Shall Prosper by Daniel Lapin.  In that book Rabbi Lapin talks about so many wonderful things and one is giving to charity and getting involved with a charity you give to.  Well, as a result of reading that chapter over the weekend, I reconsidered attending a conference call put on by Water.org – a non-profit group I had already been contributing to.

So, on Monday, December 5, 2011, I found myself dialing into a quarterly conference call put on by Water.org’s co-founder Gary White.  Can I just say that was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made?   That night I learned some amazing things!  Here’s a quick list of some of those facts:

  • 1 billion people lack safe water in the world
  • 2.5 billion people lack sanitation (ie bathrooms) in the world
  • In Africa, girls tend to drop out of school at puberty when their schools have no sanitation (ie bathrooms)
  • In Africa, women and girls tend to wait until night to defecate.  As a result, they are exposed to  danger because their risk of being attacked increases

Water.org was co-founded by Matt Damon and Gary White to help children and adults get safe, clean water and sanitation.  This non-profit group has made a difference in the lives of children and their families in Africa, India and other developing countries.   Their vision is simply to bring safe water & sanitation to all!

This holiday season you can get a limited edition (stainless steel) Camelbak Groove Water Bottle from Water.org.  This water bottle is eco-friendly and very cool.  It’ll make a great gift!  Also, $10 from every purchase goes  towards helping kids & their families get safe, clean water!

You’ll find this eco-friendly water bottle at www.water.org/gift.  This holiday season give the gift of safe, clean water!  Are you in?

Let’s bring kids safe, clean water together — one eco-friendly water bottle at a time!
