Relying on God

by pamelawright on September 21, 2011

I woke up this morning thinking about the Apostle Paul and how he prayed for God to take away the thorn in his flesh.  You’ll find Paul’s experience in 2 Corinthians 12:1-10.  Paul prayed for God to take this away from him but he did not.  In the New International Version of the Bible, it says Paul pleaded with God three times about this.  However,  God told Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”  2 Corinthians 12:9.

Paul accepted God’s decision.  Why?  Paul trusted God more than himself.  So, he chose to rely on God in his weakness and walk with him every day.  In those moments when the thorn hurt, Paul chose to trust in God’s power to comfort him.  Do you have a thorn?  Well, I do and I’ve had to make that same decision about who I was going to trust….  Me, Myself and my Emotions or God.

Thank goodness I’ve chosen to trust God more than me, myself and my emotions.  But, that was not always the case.  I know what’s it’s like to trust myself more than God and not rely on him.  Those experiences have been very painful to me.  In fact those experiences have brought me more pain than the thorn itself.

Trusting God doesn’t mean you’ll never have pain but it does mean you’ll rely on God’s power to carry you through the pain.  In those moments which can be hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, or annually for some of us, he’ll be a ROCK of support for you if you let him.  He will help you, comfort you, and carry you as necessary.

Relying on God in any circumstance starts with a choice.  All I can tell you about that is trusting and relying on God brings me hope, happiness, harmony and health.  His love encourages me and brings sunshine to my life.  And that sunshine brings me  joy every day!
