Eat Healthy, Feel Better

This morning is a new day and with that comes new choices.  I have found that eating healthy is all about making choices that are good for your body.  Several years ago, I found myself overweight with extra pounds on my body.  Where had this weight come from?  Well, I had had my youngest son several years earlier and had not released the extra pounds.  Additionally, prior to getting pregnant I was holding on to extra pounds.

What I discovered about myself as I began exploring my relationship with food is that I relied on food for comfort.  It’s one thing to enjoy food and it’s quite another to rely on it for comfort.  I am not judging people who rely on food for comfort, I totally understand it.  We all struggle with something so there’s really no room for judgment by anyone.  Who  has no struggles?

One of the motivators for getting back to my natural weight was hearing this question too many times, “Are you pregnant?”  I naturally gain about 80 pounds when I’m pregnant and it doesn’t all go away after I have my babies (I have 3 kids on the earth with me now).  So, I’ve had to deal with this annoying question.

My journey into why I eat has shown me that I started relying on food for comfort in my childhood.  That’s when I started opting for the Oreos to feel better.  I might have felt better for awhile but it did not resolve my pain.  Luckily, I was able to figure this out.  I saw a picture recently of myself when I was about 2 years old.  I was a little, skinny girl who enjoyed life!

I’m not quite certain at what age I started relying on food to comfort me through the challenges of my home life but I’m glad to be aware of that behavior now.  As a result, I have made a conscious choice to eat healthy.  A benefit of that is that I feel better.  I’ve found when I nourish my body with healthy foods, I feel better.  This has led me on a journey to nourish my heart, mind, body and spirit with healthy things.  Every day I’m confronted with choices about how I will eat and I’ve found that choosing healthy makes me feel really good!

Thanks, Hughie! I agree with you on not eating past a certain time. I have tested this and know it makes a difference. I strive to eat my last meal by 8 p.m. I have found eating by 8 p.m. works well with my body.

It is so true – once we manage our emotions and train our mind – we can also control our eating habits. Emotional eating I think is the worst enemy for most of the time and for majority of people! thanks for sharing Pamela :)

Stress and emotional eating (eating for comfort) is my opinion the leading cause of being over weight…great topic!
