30 Days To Form A New Habit

by pamelawright on November 5, 2012

As we approach the end of the year have you zeroed in on something you would like to change?  Research supports that it takes at least 21 days to form a new habit.  What do you think about that?  Based on your life experience does that sound about right?
As we approach the end of the year I can say I’ve grown in certain areas this year.  I’ve definitely had some victories.  Additionally, there’s some areas I want to grow in more.
My 3-step blueprint for forming a new habit involves the following:  1) Getting Awareness, 2) Making A Plan, and 3) Taking Action.  Here it is…
  • Step One: It takes awareness of the issue and a willingness to change in order to form a new habit.  That’s just the simple truth!
  • Step Two: Once you have awareness you’ll need a plan that helps you achieve your goal.  Some resources for formulating this plan includes getting advice from books, a therapist, a counselor, a mentor, and safe friends in your life who you trust.
  • Step Three:  After you have a plan, taking action is the next step.  So, you’ll need to choose what healthy behaviors you can adopt to replace your old behavior that you’re letting go of.  Focusing your energy on your daily action steps and walking in that direction will help you reach your goal.  In addition to taking daily action steps I also pray.  Relying on God’s power gives me strength and helps me each day!  Taking action every day is essential for your success in forming a  new habit.
It’s November and I’m working on forming a new habit.  Are you?
Feel free to post a comment below and let me know how things are going for you.  I’m wishing you abundant success with forming a new habit!
